Returning again after our successful premiere, THE FIVE MINUTE MILE is a unique night of theatre where any given night you can see plays about meeting the parents, superhero problems, the Friend Zone, the realities of being a refugee, salesmen’s schtick, accepting yourself, fictional relationships, and the crazies that come out of the woodworks everywhere. Comedies and dramas, plays and monologues - you will get to see slices of all kinds of lives - five minutes at a time.
The best part is that you get to help decide what you see! 32 plays are selected for the production. Eight are scheduled to perform each night. The next six are drawn at random at the start of the show. The last six are voted on by the audience based on the title, descriptions and the actors involved! It’s a different line up every single night!
From a submission pool of almost 400 short plays and monologues, this festival features plays from 32 playwrights across the country. We are proud to announce the 32 plays that have been selected are as follows:
Car Hell by Lesli Zephyr
Maggie is an average gal seeking a new vehicle. Brad is a Sales Associate who considers himself a slick, force of nature, especially with women. In a battle of wills, where minds and ethics collide, one thing is for certain, you will never look at purchasing a car the same way again. (Cheramie Hopper and Calvin Hudson)
Carved-Out Light by Stephanie Hutchinson
A beautiful vase, glowing from within, sits on an art gallery shelf. She is joined by a divaesque “new girl” vase who blames the glassblower for her woes… (Brittny Bush and Elizabeth Grant)
Chick Flick by Sandra Hosking
In Chick Flick, three stock female characters from the movies--the ingenue, her plucky friend and her antagonist--explore love, rivalry, hidden desires and who they should aspire to be. (Kacie Adams, Brittny Bush and Whitney Zangarine)
Crazy by David Lewison
When a single woman snaps and begins questioning random passing strangers about their relationship status, she ends up meeting the one man who might just be right for her… (Kacie Adams, Sam Denomy, Calvin Hudson, Ashley Slaughter
and Lance Zierlein)
The Father by Rod McFadden
A famous superhero tests the limits of his parenting skills, among other things. (Sam Denomy and Bryan Maynard)
Goodb(eye) by Greg Romero
A man and woman, a secret romance, static electricity passes through the phone wires, as a giant eye inexplicably hovers over the city. (Bryan Maynard and Whitney Zangarine)
Icarus and Bellerophon: A Short Conversation by Tom Klocke
Everyone knows the story of Icarus and the wax wings. Meanwhile, the lesser known Bellerophon has been bucked off the back of Pegasus by Zeus for having the hubris to think he could joint the gods on Olympus. These two Greek Heroes accidentally meet up mid air, falling out of their respective myths, plummeting to their destinies below. (Sam Denomy and Bryan Maynard)
I’m Dating As Fast As I Can by Loretta Wish
Despite her skepticism Kelly agrees to an evening of speed dating, and although it's even worse than she had anticipated, she's ultimately glad she gave it a try. (Whitney Zangarine)
The Icing by Alex Rubin
Frances got the promotion, and David is taking it lying down. On the couch. In this comedic bromance, Ben tries to motivate his depressed roommate, but David is more interested in 90's movies and couch pizza (yes, couch pizza) than showering... or moving in general. (Calvin Hudson and Ashley Slaughter)
The Last Days of the Gingerbread Man by Thomas Misuraca
This play finds the pastry of childhood nursery rhymes down on his luck and selling pieces of himself for money. (Elizabeth Grant and Ashley Slaughter)
The Last Laugh by Elizabeth Grant
You know your best friend like the back of your hand, right? What if you didn't? What if the back of your hand slapped you in the face after a concert, and then offered you a drink? Watch love, friendship, and Nu Metal collide in The Last Laugh. (Brittny Bush and Sam Denomy)
Life Support by Charles Leipart
Two young lovers and a red iPhone. Are there too many people in this relationship? (Kacie Adams and Ashley Slaughter)
Love at First Write by Bryan Maynard
When a writer’s most romantic character falls madly in love with him, he has to think up a happy ending quick. Otherwise, his deadline may be the death of him… (Kelsey Finstad, Cheramie Hopper, Calvin Hudson and Ashley Slaughter)
Maids of Dishonor by Christine Weems
Right before Alicia goes down the aisle, it is realized that she has never picked a Maid of Honor. So her four bridesmaids jockey for the position - by throwing each other under the bus. (Brittny Bush, Kelsey Finstad, Elizabeth Grant, Renata Smith
and Whitney Zangarine)
The Matchburner by Emilio Iasiello
A chance encounter with an old friend forces a self-exiled loner to come to terms with the loss of his pyromaniac girlfriend. (Ashley Slaughter)
New Mistakes by Matthew Weaver
Lonely hearts Sam and Wally text each other right before finally meeting in person for the first time. But Wally has kind of an unusual request: He's always wanted to kiss a stranger in public! (Renata Smith and Lance Zierlein)
Northern Lights by Jordan Henry
After Lisa survives a heart-attack and open-heart surgery, she reevaluates what she wants from life and tries to convince her fiancée, Candice, that life is too short to play it safe. With their wedding soon approaching, how much is each woman willing to sacrifice in order to have the life they want? (Kacie Adams and Cheramie Hopper)
On Arriving at the Refugee Processing Center, UNHCR by Ivan Faute
A Syrian mother arrives at a refugee camp for processing, and ponders about what she most regrets leaving behind as she fled. (Brittny Bush)
Quality Assurance by Allie Costa
In this fast and funny story, a telemarketer doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing. (Sam Denomy and Elizabeth Grant)
The Recruiter by Dwayne Yancey
A scene about gender discrimination in college sports. A college recruiter shows up at a rural school asking about a particular football player; oblivious to the softball player banging home runs in batting practice. (Kacie Adams, Bryan Maynard and Lance Zierlein)
Salt by Eileen Campbell
Carmen and Avery prepare for the arrival of Carmen's father, who is about to learn of his daughter's sexuality and relationship. The two women explore their own misgivings as well as determine the root of their anxieties. (Brittny Bush and Elizabeth Grant)
The Scanlon Road by Vivian Lermond
Take a Type A American tourist and a Type B Irish local, a language barrier and bad directions, then stay tuned for a finale that promises more fun than a bit of fishin'. (Ashley Slaughter and Lance Zierlein)
She Licks His Face in the End by Alex Dremann
Spoiler alert, she licks his face in the end. (Cheramie Hooper and Lance Zierlein)
Sometimes You Just Want to Be Alone by Carl Williams
A young woman can want to be alone, can’t she? There's nothing wrong with that, is there? Except when she doesn’t want to be, and then what? One more time around. (Bryan Maynard and Whitney Zangarine)
A Special Message to Young Women Everywhere From Someone Who Cares by Nicholas Garelick
#motivationalspeaker #mansplaining #hashtag #blessed #noonelikesKaitlyn

Tankinis and Frat Boys by Stacey Lane
Tanya, with romance novel in hand, is on a mission to relax at her apartment swimming pool. However, a group of rowdy young men have taken over her usually peaceful territory.
